Employee Spotlight: Johnny Montoya, Manager, Dulles Nutrition Corner

Jhonny Montoya joined the Nutrition Corner team just over a year ago as a Sales Associate at the Dulles Nutrition Corner. Within months, his work ethic and passion for health and fitness was evident and he rose to the position of Store Manager. He has quickly made his presence known in the community, and you can always find the DNC table set up at a gym in the area. His favorite part of the job is the customer interaction – hearing their results, seeing his work inside the store carry into people’s lives, is what he loves the most. “Each customer has a meaning to me, all stories are different. Everyone comes from a different walk of life, has different goals, and comes in for a different reason. Each one has a significant meaning to me.”

Growing up in Fairfax, Virginia, he was an avid competitive soccer player. For 15 years, he ate, slept, and breathed soccer and even lined up a college scholarship. Things changed when he had a career ending injury during the summer before his freshman year. A broken ankle and torn Achilles meant soccer was no longer an option, so he took a job in sales at Lifetime Fitness where he found the weight room. After work, he’d dabble in bodybuilding, but the platform called his name! His cousin, Elvis (DNC Sales Associate), showed him the ropes of Olympic Lifting and he never looked back.

While his main focus is Olympic Lifting, he still supplements his training with Bodybuilding work to maintain his physique and assist his big lifts. He uses short-term measurable goals for each lift that he works towards, which will lead him to his long-term goal of competing at the National Level. Another long-term goal of Jhonny’s is to become a certified USA Weightlfting (USAW) Coach. His passion for the sport inspires him to help as many people as possible.

Jhonny’s intense training with a history of injury does not come without the need for a good recovery stack. He says that he absolutely cannot go a day without his Aminos, Flex, and Fish Oil – and can tell the difference without them! His favorite preworkout stack is Merica Labz Red, White, and Boom with Stars and Pipes, and always has Core PWO on hand post-workout. In the offseason, Jhonny eats by feel, always making sure that he surrounds his workouts with proper nutrition. As competition approaches, however, he kicks things up a notch and tracks macros to help him make weight. His go-to preworkout is “the typical bro meal - oats and MRP.”

July 15, Jhonny will take the stage for the 4th time in his career at the Black and Red Open in Tyson’s Corner! Be sure to check the Nutrition Corner Social Media pages for final results.
